Re: HAPPY WORLD BOOK DAY
Schools are not easy!!!!
Everyone seems to have an idea that they will be really up for someone who comes in for free and helps them raise money for books-but they are not.
They have no time to read letters or take/return phonecalls,no money in the budget to spend on luxuries like books and no time to scratch their bums let alone talk to us.
When you cannot get into a school at the first attempt do not give up. Slowly slowly catchy monkey. It will come in time and will be worth it but as they say All good things come to those who wait.
As Deana said the best way in is the Summer fete/Christmas fair which is through the Fundraising committee usually so if there is no joy with the Lit Co-ord go for PTA contact instead and they are booking now for summer.I've also devised a newsletter (Emily's excellent idea that I've nicked) just to send in once a term. One day someone will pick it up,read it and say 'Hey,look at this-have we called her?'!!!!!
Don't give up!

I am finding schools hard too
I have only been to a few schools just to test the water but I am finding it really hard to get hold of anyone. I wrote letters etc but trying to actually speak to someone is really hard! I have also found that they have not actually read my info properly. They have assumed that I am just trying to sell to them and not actually read that I am saying a book fair or RSR would mean it wouldn't cost them a penny! Maybe people are just so cinical about people selling these days that they just assume there must be a catch somewhere so steer clear altogether. My Mum works in the SEN dept of a secondary school and I have managed to sell to them but I don't suppose they would have taken the time to look through the samples/catalogues if my Mum hadn't taken them in. It was only because I was showing her some bits at home that she said some of the books would be really useful to their work. That doesn't mean I am going to give up though! My next move is to do the same as Deana and take a Guided Reading Pack in and leave it for a couple of days with yet more info!

Great news about your school - it just goes to show that we should never give up.
I have decided that this year is my year for getting into schools and next year is where I reap the benefits of getting into said schools. So far I have tried letters, emails and telephone calls to my target schools. The latest attempt is to leave the stock at reception for a couple of days with instructions to give them to the literacy co-ordinater (question is she expecting them? Correct answer no but my answer - I have written to her about them and thought she might like to see them. They said - ok then!) I'll let you know if it works! Meanwhile I am going for my next list of local schools.
I am hoping for a way in through the summer fetes so am doing some groundwork on that at the moment. I think tying myself to the school railings until someone speaks to me will wait until the autumn!!!! Anyone got any other ideas?

HAPPY WORLD BOOK DAY
to everyone!
I hope you've had a lovely day!
I spent my morning at my daughters school (booked yesterday!) doing a very easy and very enjoyable Book Treasure Hunt.I simply asked Grace to mention it to her Teacher yesterday that I could come and do something a bit different (schools like extra stuff for the kids that they don't have to do) and they asked me to go in this morning. I did all of Y3-told them all about World Book day etc and Usborne then gave out the Teasure Hunts and books.
Came away from the school with a booking for a summer term Book Fair after trying for the last 3 years!!!!! Ready Steady Read another time. HOORAY!!!!!
So you see, don't give up. Even if you just ask to go and do a quick presentation on the books-make bookmarks-read a story, anything that gets you in the door.
Worth a try!!
Do post any news on your World Book Day events,be great to hear the stories!Or even if you haven't done any events-have you recruited/had a good power hour/booked a toddler group/done your housework???
Whatever you've done it would be great to hear from you!
